Design Better Applications
Delivering tools at the right place and time
Great application design bears in mind where and how an app will be used. When users need a tool that serves a specific purpose and it is readily available to them a brand can strike the right tone immediately (and look like a hero). You can liken this to being on vacation in a new city with your family. You want to go for a walk but it would also be nice to take in some sites, history, and culture at the same time. However, you don’t want to be formal and buy tickets and go on a tour with a dozen or so people. So you decide to pop open the app store on your device and search for a casual city walking history guide app and BOOM. Next thing you know, your family is off on a little outside adventure with your own virtual tour guide.
This Example App:
- Purpose – Guide users on history walks through cities.
- Who – Tourists or visitors
- Where – Cities, Towns, Etc.
- How – Provide guided directions and audio recordings
Applications for the Web and Mobile
Depending on the purpose, the design of an application may make sense for mobile devices or for desktop devices.
How will they be using the app.
- What is the core function & purpose of the app?
- Who will be using the app?
- Where will users be using the app
- How will they be using the app.?
